How the Sighthounds came into my life
I got my first sighthound which was a Swedish relocation almost 15 years ago. A whippet guy who was absolutely wonderful. He was scared for the most part in the beginning and had never been outside his garden. The leash and walk were new and scary. This dog made me fall in love with the breed whippet that I had no experience or knowledge of before he showed up. I read about other greyhounds but thought the whippet was probably the one who was most "me"
A couple of years after he died, I looked around all possible pages on the internet. Wanted to try to find a new whippet but a bitch this time. The whole family was now ready for a new dog. Called some breeders but there were no "slightly older" dogs that needed home. We didn't want a puppy but a dog that passed the worst puppy stage at least.
I found a site with a Swedish association where you could adopt various sighthounds and sighthound crossings from Ireland. Immediately I started looking through the dogs on the side but it took a while before I found her. The dog the whole family fell for instantly. A small skinny whippet lurcher who was younger than a year named Polly. Polly was booked and it turned out to be the cutest and most wonderful dog in the world. Polly and the youngest daughter (who was only about 2.5 years old) became so close right away.
Two years later it was time to get a friend for Polly. A lurcher guy came home to us as a foster dog through Friendsforever but it didn't turn out very well this time. Jax was far too active which my health could not handle at all. He got a new perfect home with a fantastic girl with a lot of dog friends and other animals.
In the summer of 2017 I, my sister and a friend went to Ireland with the goal of finding a friend to Polly. After two days at PAWS Animal Rescue when we had walked and cuddled with about twenty dogs, I found her. Little shy Kiara (then called Sofia). A lurcher and about two years old. Kiara came home to us two months later and it worked well. Polly think that Kiara plays a little too fast and clumsy ;)
Three months after Kiara came to us, we became an emergency foster home for a greyhound bitch named Jasmine. This wonderful dog stole all of our hearts directly but my husband said No! TWO dogs are enough! Three weeks later she was our third dog and was named Chloe instead. Chloe was four years old and had competed in Ireland for two years but ran too slow so she was dumped at the lokal dog pound. Luckily, "Coolronan Dog Rescue" saw her and her half-sister there and took both of them. The half sister named Cloe (!) Is also in Sweden and I have some contact with the owner via one of my Facebook groups. So along this path, the sighthounds have come into my and my family's life.
